Boosting Reading Skills update: 2008-01-23

The Accelerated Reader is a researched based reading program that has been scientifically proven to help improve reading levels. Students in grades 1-4 read books at their independent level followed by a 5-10 comprehension question test. Students move up to a higher reading level when they receive 90% on at least two consecutive tests. Children check out AR books from the library. Testing data shows that student performance on standardized testing and the state OAT are aligned to the performance and progress charted through the AR program.

Computer Instruction Starts Early at Central Elementary update: 2008-01-23

Central has a computer lab equipped with new PC computers. Elementary students are scheduled for classes in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for 70 minutes a week for one semester. These computer lessons are in addition to any technology instruction they receive in their classrooms.

Character Counts at Central update: 2008-01-16

Central Elementary has a character council made up of parent volunteers who present monthly character lessons to all K-4 students. These lessons reflect the six pillars of character education which are: Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Fairness, Trustworthiness and Citizenship. Parents interested in learning more about the Character Council can call Mrs. DiCristofaro, Central Elementary Guidance Counselor at 330 847-2327.

We are about our community update: 2008-01-23

Our students are involved in many community service projects such as: Goodwill clothing drives canned goods for local missions; supplies for animal welfare, students writing to our troops, supplies for needy families; fund raising for the American Heart Association and Toys for Tots. Central’s student council club coordinates most of our community service efforts.

Support Groups - A Service to our Parents and Students update: 2008-01-16

Our families have available to them a variety of student support groups for their children. These support groups lead by our guidance counselor. Different groups are designed to help children deal with different issues including: peer relationships, coping with divorce, developing self esteem, strengthening social skills or managing anger. For more information on any of the groups, please contact our guidance department at 330-847-2327.
