Middle School Award
Champion Middle School staff and students earned the honor of being named the Top Middle School in the State by receiving the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators 2005 Hall of Fame Award. Principal, Mary Walker, teachers, secretaries, students and other school staff were presented a plaque honoring Champion Middle School for receiving the Hall of Fame designation at the May 2005 Champion Board of Education meeting.
Champion Middle School was selected from 58 applications from middle schools throughout the state of Ohio. The selection committee for the Hall of Fame Award looked at various aspects of the middle school including programs, staff professional development, wellness program, discipline, safety and support & communication among the high school, middle school and elementary school. The O.A.E.S.A. required schools competing for Hall of Fame status to outline in written profiles: instructional systems; chart student achievement and development; personnel and administrative development and community involvement.
In October 2005, Mrs. Mary Walker, CMS Principal, Ms. Karen Daff, Ms. Heather Richardson & Ms. Susan Heutsche, CMS teachers, Mr. Roger Samuelson, School Board President, and Mrs. Pamela Hood, Superintendent attended the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators Professional Conference in Columbus, Ohio where Champion Middle School was officially presented with their impressive plaque.
Mrs. Walker’s insight into why Champion Middle School received the award: - “What we believe made us stand out is our programs have depth to them. We really put the energy and effort into making quality programs for our students.” Mrs. Walker shared, “This award is an honor for our school, but it is really a community award.”
