Champion Schools honored approximately 50 veterans and active duty military members at its 15th annual Veterans Day Tribute held Friday, November 8.
This year’s honored veteran was Mr. Timothy Downs, a 1977 Champion High School graduate. Tim served four years in the United States Air Force after high
school including as part of a Titan 2 missile crew. The featured speaker for the program was Mr. Trevor Ross of Champion, a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany and Fort Campbell, Kentucky, who described details of his four years in the service. Tim Downs and Trevor Ross led the procession of veterans to and from the high school auditorium.
Champion Central Elementary students in 3rd and 4th grades sang several songs to entertain and honor the veterans and guests. The high school choir and band performed patriotic selections including “United States Armed Forces Salute.” Band Director is Derrick Kittle. Choir Director is Katie Ahmed, and Josh Cokrlic is the Elementary Music Director.
Mrs. Kay O’Donnell served as Mistress of Ceremony, and Pastor Andrew Pitts gave the invocation.
