Fall Fest Celebrates Community Senior Citizens

On Thursday, October 24, 2024, the Champion Local School District excitedly welcomed over 80 senior citizens from our community to campus for the 16th Annual Fall Fest appreciation luncheon. This annual event, hosted by the Senior Citizens Advisory Council and the Champion Board of Education, celebrates the invaluable contributions of our senior residents.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious lunch catered by our outstanding food services department. Champion Middle School’s Student Council members did a fantastic job serving and clearing tables, and our 7th-grade band provided musical entertainment with a performance of medleys by Ohio Composers! Guests had a chance to take home a fall flower basket through the event's raffle.

A highlight of the day was the announcement of the 2024 Senior Citizen of the Year by the Rotary Club of Champion. This year’s honoree was Bonnie Wilson, an inspiring community leader and Director of the Trumbull County Family & Children First Council.

Bonnie has been an active advocate for Champion schools and has spearheaded numerous initiatives to support the mental health and well-being of students and families. From mentorship programs in our middle and high schools to developing Trauma-Informed Care resources for school counselors, Bonnie’s efforts have made a lasting impact. She has also established a parenting support program and created "It Suits You," a formal wear clothing drive that helps local young men in need.

"I am speechless and so humbled by this honor," Wilson said after receiving her award. "When we are helping familes and youth get the services they need, we have healthier communities. I am truly honored, thank you."

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our food services staff for preparing such a wonderful meal, to our administrative staff for their support, and to everyone involved in making Fall Fest 2024 a memorable celebration of our senior community!
