The 135th General Assembly of Ohio has recognized the Champion Local Schools’ Finance Department for receiving an Auditor of State Award from the Auditor of State Keith Faber! An official proclamation arrived at the district’s Board of Education office earlier in July. The declaration, signed by Ohio Senate President, Senator Matt Huffman, and local 32nd District Senator, Sandra O’Brien, states, “The Champion Local School District has become known for its superior fiscal accountability, and all those responsible for this esteemed award can reflect with pride and satisfaction on the strong tradition upon which they can build an even more productive and rewarding future.”

The Champion Local School District is just one of five Trumbull County schools to receive a clean audit award from the State of Ohio Auditor’s Office for their reporting in fiscal year 2023. The award is given for excellence in financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and compliance with applicable laws. This means the district’s audit had no findings for recovery, no suggestions for improvements, and no deficiencies. District Treasurer, Laurena Rouan says, “This award shows the district is continuing to be responsible with taxpayer dollars and represents the hard work of all school administrative staff, board, and employees who make every effort, each day, to attain accounting excellence.” Along with Rouan, the treasurer’s office also includes budgetary assistant  Valerie Infante and payroll assistant Julie Torok.

The district has received an Auditor of State Award for a clean audit every year since fiscal year 2017.
