Congratulations to first grader Natalie Kellar in Mrs. Basalyga's classroom, she has won the Trumbull County Bar Association's Law Day contest for 1st grade!
Each year, the Association invites students across Trumbull County to participate in a themed-essay contest. The topic for this year's contest was 'Voices of Democracy.' Writing and artistic submissions are all reviewed by the Bar Association and they then select 1st and 2nd place winners in each grade level. All winners receive a cash prize, with first place winners also getting a pizza party for their classroom!
"I'm so excited to win a pizza party for my class," Natalie told us. She went on to add, "I thought there was no way I was going to win, and then my teacher announced my name and I couldn't believe it!" Natalie will be recognized during a special luncheon with the Bar Association May 1.
According to the American Bar Association's website, Law Day is an annual commemoration held on May 1st to celebrate the rule of law and cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal system.
Congratulations, Natalie - we are so proud of you!
